Journalists, human rights defenders welcome UN expert recommendations
"The Philippine government will become a laughing stock in the international community if it does not heed SR Khan's findings."
Bulatlat stands for truth and democracy. Over the years, Bulatlat, along other media organizations and human rights defenders, has advocated for media freedom, digital rights and the people’s access to information not only through its reportage but also through engagement with its audiences and other campaign activities.
For its brand of journalism, Bulatlat has been subjected to various forms of attacks. And are fighting back. Bulatlat is the first in the Philippines to have won a case against cyber attackers in 2019. In 2022, Bulatlat sued the National Telecommunications Commission, National Security Council and former National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. for ordering the blocking of our website and 26 other sites.

Frenchie is the executive director of Eastern Vista and anchor of a local radio program in Tacloban City. She was arrested with four other human rights defenders on Feb. 7, 2020 and charged with trumped-up criminal cases.
Frenchie also exposed the terror caused by military encampment in 167 communities in the region under the guise of “community support program.”
